Royal British Legion Poppy Run receives £370 as runner remembers his fallen friend

15 Nov 2016

Chris Gallacher, Pensions Administrator with local North West based pensions company MyCSP, has completed the Royal Legion Poppy Run in remembrance of his close friend, Guardsman Tony Downes who was killed in Afghanistan in 2007 aged just 20.

Chris raised a total of £370, of which £200 was donated by the MyCSP Community Fund.

Chris said “Tony was a close friend and so this is a cause close to my heart. He would have turned 30 a couple of months ago so this was a particularly poignant race.”

Guardsman Downes was killed by a landmine whilst on duty in Helmand Province just 11 days before he was due to return home. Last year, the new headquarters in Droylsden of the Greater Manchester Pension Fund was named after him.

David Boardman, Communications Director at MyCSP, comments, “At MyCSP, we actively support our colleagues to work with their local communities and we’re very proud to be able to support Chris in this most worthy of causes.”
