Member focus groups reach Aberdeen!
14 March 16
Wednesday 9 March saw MyCSP reach another milestone in our quest to engage scheme members with their pensions.
Colleagues from the Communications and Digital Services teams, ably supported by the Enquiry Centre and SCU, made the long trek to Scotland’s north east coast to meet employees of the Scottish Government’s Marine laboratories.
At 57 degrees latitude, Aberdeen is the most northerly destination we’ve been to so far, and it brought a useful reminder that not all our scheme members are office-based desk-dwellers.
On a tour of this substantial site overlooking Scotland’s granite city, they met scheme members who repair fishing nets for a living, scientists, fishermen and even people who look after diseased fish!
The focus groups themselves were useful in gaining further insight into member communication needs; and in helping the team to gauge the effectiveness of the work they do in producing communications like the ‘What to expect’, ‘ABS’ and ‘Quick Start’ guides.
The sessions were very well received and the team even returned with an invitation to go back and do some focus groups on board a ship in the North Sea!
MyCSP attend Liverpool University Graduate Fair
11 March 2016
The MyCSP HR team and some willing volunteers from our operational teams, dusted off their famous orange t-shirts and attended the Liverpool Spring Careers Fair on Wednesday 9 March at the Liverpool Guild of Students. They went armed with gifts and goodies, jelly bean pots and Busy Lizzies mini plants to help the students grow their potential!
"It’s our second attendance at the University and we had a great turn out and interest in the company. From some of the very positive feedback we received, we found that students are starting to recognise us and enjoy talking to the team at our stand. We gained 65 names and email addresses and we will be working with the Communications team to keep up the engagement with all 65 students and notify them of future vacancies and opportunities at MyCSP. We’ve already had one graduate visit us today to take a tour of the office and to discuss potential opportunities that may be available when he graduates this summer.
We are always looking for talented individuals to join our teams and our aim is to have a great network of candidates to call upon as our business expands." Ann Shields, HR Business Partner, Resourcing.

On the road again!
17 February 2016
The Communications team has been hitting the road again in the latest set of member focus groups for the Civil Service Pension Scheme.
Four sessions at the House of Commons was followed by a very well-attended visit in Newcastle with a final couple of sessions with the Scottish Government in Edinburgh.
The focus groups have proved really useful in helping us to understand more about the needs of scheme members in terms of what information they need and how they like to receive it.
We also had experts from our Scheme Compliance Unit and the Enquiry Centre who offered a ‘surgery’ where members could delve into a little more detail about their own pension queries.
MyCSP brings vibrance to Liverpool graduate fair
16 October 2015
As part of our HR initiative to recruit great talent and also to Increase the MyCSP brand on Merseyside, we took a stand at this year’s Liverpool Business, Finance and Law Careers Fair on Wednesday 14 October.
The event was held at the Crypt Hall, Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral from 10.30 am to 3.30 pm (the usual St.George’s Hall venue is being used for filming the new Harry Potter film!)
So, with the help of the Communications Team, we organised three stands, six orange t-shirts, 1000 leaflets, five kilos of sweets to give away to hungry students, one giant photo frame and almost a MyCSP pumpkin.
We took enthusiastic helpers Jane Hutchinson and Laura Garrett from HR, Louise Burns and Matthew Singleton from the Enquiry Centre and Kaiman Lee from Systems and Operations to mingle and talk to the students and sharing their own career experiences at MyCSP.
The fair attracted over 2000 students from all disciplines and the stands included visitors from Aldi, TK Maxx, Mercer, various law and financial firms, the Army and Jaguar Landrover.
It was a very successful event with positive feedback from the students and helpers alike. One student said that they ’liked the look of us as we were lively, vibrant and more approachable than the other stands who were all dressed in suits’.

MyCSP attends the CSPA Conference in Coventry
9 October 2015
In the latest move to engage with members, David Boardman and Robin Lee joined Alan Brown at this year's CSPA conference on Wednesday and Thursday of this week in Coventry.
The Civil Service Pensioners Alliance is one of our trusted partners and has been very supportive of us through recent challenges.
It was nice to hear their General Secretary, Mike Duggan, telling delegates in his opening address about the support that MyCSP has also given to them and acknowledging [totally unprompted!] the growing strength of our relationship.
The CSPA has over 50,000 members across its regional groups, so never ones to miss an opportunity, team MyCSP managed to get more member engagement surveys completed at the event.
Flyers were also handed out for delegates to take back to their groups to encourage colleagues to complete the survey online.
The Comms team plans to use insights gained from the survey, to inform the development of bite-sized digital engagement campaigns to help members understand their pension benefits and encourage them to take responsibility for their retirement planning.
